This book is required reading for hunters preparing a trip to Africa. Written by Kevin “Doctari” Robertson, a veterinarian and a long-time professional hunter from Zimbabwe, the Perfect Shot II is an updated edition of Robertson’s original book “The Perfect Shot” he wrote in the 1990s. The newer book has the same useful information on shot placement as well as just general information about some of the most popular species to hunt in Africa, but he’s included more animals and updated it to reflect newer bullets that didn’t exist when he wrote the first edition. Honestly, there is so much new information in this book that it’s worthwhile to buy it for a hunter who already owns the first edition.
The Perfect Shot Mini-Edition is a pocket-sized shot placement reference for some of the most popular species of game intended to be carried on hunts in Africa for quick reference should the need arise.
Dr. Kevin Robertson is well known in hunting circles as a man who has been around the block a few times. Specifically, he’s an extremely knowledgeable and experienced hunter and veterinarian from Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe) who is widely considered to be one of the top authorities on hunting in Africa.
He’s also quite the story teller and does an outstanding job of sharing some of his most entertaining and humorous incidents accumulated during his decades of hunting in Zimbabwe in his book It Shouldn’t Happen: Light-Hearted African Adventures.
Full of stories like the time Kevin stopped a charging lion with a bottle of shampoo, the time a cape buffalo ripped the shorts off one of his friends with its horns and tried to sink the man’s boat, or when a few hunters loaded a seemingly (but not quite) dead kudu into the back of their VW Minivan, It Shouldn’t Happen will make you howl with laughter.
I highly recommend purchasing a copy of Africa’s Most Dangerous if you think you might want to hunt cape buffalo one day. I purchased this book many years ago before my first buffalo hunt and I found it extremely helpful. This book is well written and easy to read and I’ve continued to use it as a reference to this day. If you’re planning a buffalo hunt, or if you just want to learn more about cape buffalo and want a great “all in one” reference, you will not be disappointed with Africa’s Most Dangerous.
