My 2019 Hunting Gear List

At this very moment I’m up in New Mexico on a mule deer hunt. So with that in mind, I thought I’d talk about some of the hunting gear I’m using this hunting season. I’ll discuss my muzzleloader, hunting rifle, ammunition, rifle scopes, binoculars, as well as a couple of important services I use to get set up for success before hunting season begins.

Feel free to send me a message with any feedback you have on the show as well as topic requests for future episodes.

Some states offer over the counter tags for certain species. However, that’s not always the case. Indeed, every single hunt I’ve gone on out west for the past few years has required me to apply for and draw a tag. In many cases, that’s easier said than done.

Fortunately, I’ve been a GoHunt INSIDER member for the past few years and I’ve used the information they provide to research what hunts to apply for and find those “hidden gem” units where you can have a great hunt, but still have a reasonable chance of drawing. That cost of that membership has paid for itself many times over with the number of tags I put in for, drew, and had a great hunt on that there’s no way I would have known about otherwise.

These hunts don’t require a lot of preference points either, so don’t let anyone tell you that you need 10 or more points to have a quality hunt. I drew my Arizona deer tag this year with 3 points. Every other tag I’ve ever drawn has required 0, 1, or 2 points and I’ve had a great hunt on every single one of those tags. There’s no reason you can’t do the same thing either.

So, sign up for an INSIDER membership at GoHunt.com and you can get the information you need to plan a great DIY hunt on public land for yourself. Use promo code BIGGAMEHUNTER when you sign up to get $50 in store credit at their gear shop. Not only will you get the information that will help you know exactly what units to apply for in order to have a fun hunt with a reasonable chance of drawing, but you’ll also get $50 in store credit that you can use to buy some good quality hunting gear at the same time.
